Karalam

Karalam is a small village in Trichur district in Kerala state of India. This little village is known for its scenic beauty and laid back living in the country side. Located 8 km from Irinjalakuda and 18 km from Trichur, this village is blessed with all the convenience needed for a comfortable life at the same time living close to the nature. This village has all the amenities for a normal living.

Landmarks

Kumaranchira temple----It is fair to say Karalam is famous for its Kumaranchira temple. Even though entry is permitted to only Hindus, people following other religions also believe in Kumaranchira Bhagavathy ( Deity ) up to a certain extent and send their offerings to the temple though their Hindu friends or neighbours.


Sumagiri Auditorium (Kalyanamandapom)----Coveniently located right by the side of Kumaranchira temple, this auditorium hosts most of the weddings in the village.


"'SBI Bank----State Bank of India has a small branch here in the heart of Karalam with all the facilities like Safe deposit lockers etc. The population greatly depend on this bank for all their financial needs. This Branch was Previously of Bank of Cochin. When Bank of Cochin was taken over by SBI, they retained this Branch.


"'Karuvannur Puzha----This beautiful River marks the northern boundary of Karalam Panchayat.This River is the main source of water for Agriculture in the Village.

Festivals

* Kumaranchira temple Bharani utsavam (festival) in March which lasts for 2 days.
* Pindi Perunnal in January, second week, every year which lasts for three days.


Economy

* Agriculture - Vast majority of people depends on Agriculture for their lively hood.
* NRIs - There are a good number of houses from where atleat one member is working abroad.. especially in the Gulf Countries.
