Hinoiri

The Hinoiri (初日の入り meaning “Sunset”) were a mercenary organization in Japanese folklore located in Bhutan, South Asia. The organization was known for undertaking deadly missions and using relentless force in their efforts to rid the country of monarchism and its tyrannical king.

Rebellion In Bhutan

Legends of the Hinoiri state that long ago on a festive night ("the day of the blue moon" in Japanese), rebel leaders had gathered any able-bodied citizen soldiers to fight Jigme Wangchuk’s imperial guard in efforts to overthrown the tyrant king. Due to lack of skill, equipment and being outnumbered 40,000 to 2,000, the rebels were defeated in substantial amounts. With only a few hundred soldiers left, the rebels fled east, where they encountered the Hinoiri.

Not much was known about the Hinoiri at the time, other than their reputation of being a group of ten deadly mercenaries who had assassinated the former tyrant king of Burma (overthrowing the government in the process). The rebels asked the Hinoiri for help in the war against Jigme’s army and they complied. Jigme was overthrown with the assistance of this organization and the people under his rule were freed.

The Hinoiri continually carried out infiltration and battle missions in order to obtain a victory. The missions were usually carried out in groups of two according to skill and status. There were times when all ten mercenaries of the group would fight all at once. The number of mercenaries involved largely depended on the type of mission, and all missions were issued by the leader of the Hinoiri.
