Impotent poor [ [http://www.edexcel.org.uk/VirtualContent/83765/entry_history_core_task_Poor_Law_1834.pdf The Poor Law Amendment Act of 1834.] Edexcel Entry Level in History, Core Task.] was a classification of poverty used in Britain during the 1600s. It referred to those poor who were unable to support themselves either through age or sickness - not because they did not want to work. This group was considered deserving of poor relief.
