It is not a licensed pharmaceutical, but was granted a trademark by the US Patent and Trademark Office in January 2005. Bismacine contains high levels ofbismuth , and two deaths are recorded in Kansas, USA, following the use of intravenous bismacine to treat Lyme disease.
