- Tulip Radio
Tulip Radio is one of the local
radio stations of Spalding,Lincolnshire . The name is linked to Spalding's heavy involvement with the horticulture industry, andTulip s are one flower the town is famous for. In addition, the town hosts the annual Spalding Flower Parade (once named the Tulip parade, and still heavily based on tulips) every year at the beginning of May. The station has an annual float in the Spalding Flower Parade.Tulip Radio is one of few radio stations nationally to offer media training to secondary students in local schools from its New Road studios, funded by the leader+ scheme. Some of the students have gone on to present shows on the station.
The station is regularly involved in community events such as Springfields fireworks, and at Macmillan cancer fun days.
In 2007, the station also took on the job of finding the [http://www.tulip-radio.co.uk/flowerqueen/ South Holland Flower Queen] to be the leading lady of the [http://www.flowerparade.org Spalding Flower Parade] .
As well as its own broadcasts, it has helped set up a radio station in
Boston, Lincolnshire , along withBlackfriars Arts Centre , called Stump Radio which broadcasts in July on 87.7 FM.The station team have applied for a 5-year full-time community radio licence. The decision came through on April 24, 2008 as yes, and the station intends to begin broadcasting full time early in 2009.
The station's next broadcast will start in early 2009.
