Biography

Anne Will was born on March 18, 1966, in Cologne, Germany. She grew up in Hürth, the daughter of an architect. After attending high school at the Albert-Schweitzer-Gymnasium in Hürth, she studied history, politics, and anglistics (English language and literature) in Cologne and Berlin starting in 1985. During her studies she was already working as a journalist at "Kölnische Rundschau" ("Cologne Review") and the "Berliner Volksblatt" newspaper. In mid-1990, she graduated with a Magister Artium from the University of Cologne and began her career in radio and television at Sender Freies Berlin (now part of Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg).

At the end of 1992, she became more widely known while presenting both the talk show "Mal ehrlich" and the television sports magazine "Sportpalast". At this time, she also worked for the Berlin TV station B1, while hosting the show "Parlazzo" at station WDR from 1996 to 1998.

Anne Will was the first woman to host the popular German sports show "Sportschau" since November 1999. During the 2000 Summer Olympics, she presented, on ARD, a variety of live sports shows from Sydney, Australia.

From 14 April 2001, to 24 June 2007, she presented the prime German broadcast late night news magazine "Tagesthemen" in alternation with Ulrich Wickert and, since September 2006, with his successor Tom Buhrow. Since 16 September 2007, she has been hosting her own political talkshow "Anne Will" in succession of the retired Sabine Christiansen. Her successor to "Tagesthemen" is Caren Miosga.

An active contributor to charities Kindernothilfe and UNICEF, she is also involved in projects aiming to eliminate landmines. She hosted the German stage event in front of the Siegessäule in Berlin of the Live8 on 2 July 2005.

Will lives in Berlin with long-time partner Miriam Meckel, professor of communication and media at University of St. Gallen. [cite web
