Jean Elisabeth Lassen

Jean Elisabeth Lassen

Jean Elisabeth Lassen (born 26 September 1980) is a Canadian weightlifter. Lassen is originally from Whitehorse, Yukon. She is one of few Yukon athletes to break in to the world scene. She was born, however, in Victoria, British Columbia.

Lassen won a silver medal in the women's 54-59kg division at the 1995 Canada Winter Games in Grande Prairie, Alberta. This, of course, was before she became a national athlete.

She won the gold medal at the 2005 University World Cup. Lassen participated in the women's -69 kg class at the 2006 World Weightlifting Championships and won the bronze medal, [cite web|title=LASSEN Jean Elisabeth|publisher=International Weightlifting Federation|url=http://www.iwf.net/results/results_athlete_e.php?compid=1231] finishing behind Oxana Slivenko and Tatiana Matveeva. She snatched 102 kg and jerked an additional 136 kg for a total of 238 kg, 25 kg behind winner Slivenko. At the 2007 World Weightlifting Championships she ranked sixth. She ranked 8th in the 75 kg category at the 2008 Summer Olympics, lifting a total of 240 kg.
