- Tambora (band)
Tambora was an American rock band from
Wisconsin , led by Jeff Schroedl (guitar and backing vocals), Scott Schroedl (drums), David Prohaska (bass and backing vocals), Steve Medland (guitar), and Greg Garrison (lead vocals). Their main influences reflected the hard rock landscape of the late 80’s and includedVan Halen ,AC/DC ,Pat Travers , Racer X,Living Colour ,Aerosmith , andDef Leppard .Formed in 1989 by the Schroedl brothers and Prohaska, Tambora soon grew a strong regional following. By the following year, they had recorded their first demos, which would later be officially released in 1990. Their first single, "Cry Out," received airplay on local rock and top 40 stations, and achieved most requested status on WTFX in the summer of 1990. Later that fall, their second single, “Find A Way”, again aired on Wisconsin radio and achieved most requested status.
Known for hook-laden songwriting and aggressive live performances that mixed loud dual guitars and lush vocal harmonies, their sound came to be coined “heavy melody.” Between 1989 and 1992, Tambora opened for a variety of major label artists including
Cheap Trick ,Quiet Riot ,Night Ranger ,Blue Öyster Cult ,the Kinks ,Enuff Z'nuff , Nelson, Vixen, and Blackfoot.Major label interest waned after the release of Nirvana’s "
Nevermind " and the group disbanded. As of 2006, Jeff Schroedl is a music publishing executive; Scott Schroedl is a studio owner and percussion clinician; David Prohaska is a marketing executive; and Steve Medland is an adjunct professor at a northwest university.
