It lies approximately 29 kilometres (18 mi) south-west of Hajnówka and 68 km (42 mi) south of the regional capital Białystok.
The village has a population of 3,774. It is a rail junction, with connections going westwards to Siedlce, northwards to Bielsk Podlaski and eastwards to Hajnówka.
