Taipei First Girls' High School (臺北市立第一女子高級中學) is a prestigious Taiwanese high school, located in Zhongzheng District within Taipei City.

Overview

The school was founded in 1904 and named as Taipei State Taipei First Girls’ High School (zh-t|t=台北州立台北第一高等女學校) during Japan's colonial period. After the retrocession of Taiwan in 1945, the name was changed to Taiwan Provincial Taipei First Girls’ High School (zh-t|t=台灣省立台北第一女子中學) on December 12th. In 1967 it was renamed to Taipei Municipal First Girls’ Senior High School due to Taipei City becoming a municipality. With its history stretching back over one hundred years, the school has had over 60,000 students. Currently, the school operates seventy eight classes and has over 3,000 students.

The school's campus measures roughly 26,000 sq. metres, with a total of six main buildings - the oldest being "Guang-Fu Building" (zh-t|t=光復樓), a three storey structure built by the Japanese government in 1933. Other buildings include "Ming-De Building" (zh-t|t=明德樓, completed 1954), "Zhong-Zheng Building" (zh-t|t=中正樓, completed 1977), the Library, the Activity Center (completed 1971), and "Zhi-Shan Building" (zh-t|t=至善樓, completed 1993).

The school is famous for the traditions it maintains, including a uniform of green shirt and black skirt. An alumni T-shirt says "Green Shirt Legend" in Chinese on the right, "T.F.G." on the left, and on the back, an illustration of the campus, complete with students in green shirts.

Features

Over the past few decades the school has endeavored to modernize its facilities. In 1971 a sports and assembly hall was constructed. In 1993 a new building was completed; Zhi-Chan. This five-story building has a large observatory located on the roof with several telescopes therein. Within the Zhong-Zheng building are IT facilities together with abundant reading materials, audio-visual headsets and Internet access.

The school also possesses an auditorium, conference rooms, a heated indoor swimming pool and a subterranean parking lot.
