He is a member of theLos Angeles Police Department who is on probation for a gambling addiction at the time of the standoff. He attempts to expose the ineffectiveness of the department in rescuing the hostages, but is blackmailed over potential investigation into his gambling addiction, charges against Egan for possession of a firearm and Franny for drug possession. He gives in to the blackmail and accepts a medal and a promotion.Nick and
Eva Rios shared a mutual attraction before the incident at the bank, and were planning on going on a date. Eva's death affected Nick quite a bit--he still has resounding guilt over being unable to prevent her from coming to harm.Kathryn Hale has repeatedly told Nick that Eva's death was far from his fault, and she and the group maintain that were it not for Nick, the incident would have been significantly worse. Nick appears not to believe this statement of support, taking both Eva's death and the hostages inability to escape as his failures.Nick is looked to as the unofficial "leader" of the group; they turn to him for support and guidance. However, Franny--who had previously looked to Nick for protection against Eva's convict ex-boyfriend--is currently upset with both Nick and Kathryn for their shared suspicions over Eva's potential involvement in the robbery. Kathryn appears to be particularly sensitive to Nick's situation as the one the group looks to, and she also appears to be harboring a concealed attraction for him.
