XR-8 Syncopter

The XR-8 Syncopter was an experimental aircraft the United States Army developed in 1944, but abandoned production after an important test pilot was killed during a test flight. This helicopter is relevant in the history of military aircraft because it was one of the rare models of helicopters that had no rear rotor.
