Kennelly is 6 feet, 2 inches tall, making him one of the tallest powerlifters in active competition. [cite web | title = World Record Bench Press| url = http://www.build-muscle-and-burn-fat.com/world-record-bench-press.html | accessdate = 2008-08-08 ]

In addition to his world record efforts, Kennelly holds the claim as the first man to bench press 800 pounds. Kennelly trains as often as 10 times in a week and hits some type of bench press training 7-8 times a week. Kennelly began lifting with his legs only because his bench had plateaued due to a weaker lower body. Ryan has had as much as 1300 lbs on the bar for a bench (5 board press failed).
