Yorcard

Yorcard

Yorcard is a proposed form of electronic smartcard ticketing for use in South / West Yorkshire. It will be a multi-modal smartcard for use on the regions buses, train and tram networks. The pilot began in September 2007 with children from several schools.

The system is in some ways similar to the Oyster Card used on public transport by Transport for London. Unlike the Oyster card, the Yorcard will be an ID card and will therefore not be transferable. This makes it less good value than the current paper passes of one month duration or less, which customers are encourages to share with family members to get the best value from the pass. The Q&A on the Yorcard website says that drivers will confiscate the pass if a person other than the holder attempts to use it.
