Burnet Institute

The Burnet Institute (also known as the Macfarlane Burnet Institute for Public Health) is Australia's largest communicable diseases research institute. It was founded in Melbourne in 1986 and named after Australian Nobel laureate Frank Macfarlane Burnet.

The institute in one of 12 Collaborating Centres approved by the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS and the only medical research institute that receives funds from AusAID.

The headquarters is on Commercial Road in Prahran, Victoria opposite Fawkner Park. In 2007, the Burnet Institute became part of the Austin network incorporating the research facilities of the Austin Hospital.
