A 165 m long scissor crossover at the western end of thebox will enable trains to terminate at the station and return either to central London orto Abbey Wood.
Access to and from the station will be via a re-built Great Wharf bridge. A bank ofescalators will be provided from the bridge down to a landing at the same level as thedockside where a further bank will connect with the ticket hall located within the stationbox beneath the water level. Further escalators will be provided to platform level.
Construction of the station will predominantly take place on Hertsmere road, which runs parallel to West India North Dock. This will involve digging a shaft to the station depth of 30 metres below the dock water-level to enable crew and equipment to begin boring the box that will form the station. The construction including fit-out and commissioning of the Hertsmere Road shaft will take approximately four years. The construction including fit-out and commissioning of the Isle of Dogs station will take approximately five years.
