Flying Daggers

"Flying Daggers" (飛刀又見飛刀) is a Chinese television series, adapted from one of a series of Gu Long's martial arts novel. With famous Taiwanese producer Yang Pei Pei, and a cast including Ruby Lin, Julian Cheung, and Sun Xin, this adventure epic unfolds to it journey into the internal world of a destined fighter, the tale intertwining passion and vengeance.

Plot

The plot below is different from the TV series

Li Huai was an orphan without a family since he was young, his childhood consisted of hunger, cold, loneliness, & sufferings. He owned not a thing in the world, the only thing he could rely on was his optimistic character that would not give in to fate and the smile on his face. He had two friends by his side, one was called Zhao Sha, the other Zhang Mei, both were also orphans. Zhao & Zhang have similar family backgrounds, but their personalities were different, one was good-hearted, the other liked to fight. Li Huai never compromised, never accepted defeat, he never complained, finally brought the god of fate into complete prostration, cannot but incline in favor with him.

He originally had a family, moreover it was an incomparable, prominent family -- his family clan was of nobility for generations, his grandfather was, in the past century, Jiang Hu's one & only, admired by all heroes, the famous "Xiao Li Fei Dao", Li Xun Huan.

He not only had a family, also from his father Li Man Qing acquired the insight that there really was a sharp, accurate flying knife technique, this all fascinated him. Pity, a real pity that, this strange and cold family was unable to bring Li Huai warmth, relieve him of his loneliness. He did not belong to his father & brother's social stratum. He could not bear the restraints, not the kind of aristocratic conceitedness & coldness/indifference. He rather be like a wild dog rolling in the mud, than to live in a world of sumptuous lifestyle that didn't belong to him. Li Huai courageously ran from the family admired by everyone & what he had longed for. He ran & did not turn nor look back.......

God of the fate submits to him once more. He obtained from his deceased mother an embroidered purse, inside it was a small map. He found the place indicated on the map. This map was like a Midas' Touch. He found that place, he lived there alone for seven years, mastered the one & only flying knife technique, also found the buried treasure that could take on a nation. He continued to roam about, playing through life. He was chivalrous, squandered money like dirt. He saved many families from the verge of collapse, also helped many young couples to establish their own loving families. These people attempted to inquire by any means possible their benefactor's identity, wanted to know where he came from, & where he will go, but they were completely out at sea/miss the point.

Li Huai had a feeling of success from all the good deeds he has done, but could not get rid of the loneliness inside him. Under that profligate, uninhibited semblance, was a heart craving for stability and warmth/love. Family represented stability, warmth/love. More and more he longed for.....longed for a family of his own, a stable and loving family. In order to seek and establish a family of his own, he could not help but to return to that mountain city he once lived in his youth. In that city was a little girl named Fang Keke, she once was a helpless girl, having a family was like not having a family, was loathed & abandoned by her father, but under Li Huai's help, she not only miraculously obtained her father's love, but also became the apple of her father's eyes [or the pearl on her father's palm] , a collection of love centering all on her.....

Many years have past since their parting, Fang Keke, like Li Huai, also grew up, furthermore turned out to be very attractive. Most importantly, she never forgot about Li Huai. Li Huai originally had the chance to quickly obtain his ideal family, pity Fang Keke was no longer the person she was before, she was a girl spoiled by her father, she gave Li Huai all-out sufferings, head big as a grain. Her father Fang Tien Hao was an expert in the business circle, was the city's leading figure. Li Huai's two friends of his former days, both became his right-hand man now, both had changed their names to better sounding ones, one was called Zhao Chuan, the other was called Zhang Zhen.

Zhao Chuan was Keke's secret admirer, but deemed himself of an unworthy match for her, also knew that Keke liked Li Huai, regarding them having a relationship, he had no envies, only blessings. Zhang Zhen also loved Keke, but he did not love Keke for herself, she represented wealth, anyone who married Keke would instantly obtain wealth, wealth & power was what Zhang Zhen tried to seek even in his sleep [or his long-cherished goal] . Li Huai's appearance, startled & broken his big dream, his heart itching with hatred, on the surface he could not but flatter Li Huai, he knew Li Huai was Keke's beloved, he doesn't want to provoke Keke.

Three things that Fang Tien Hao liked most in his life, besides his beloved daughter Keke, were power/influence and reputation. He would not let his daughter marry a poor tramp [pauper] , Li Huai was unworthy of the Fang family. Fang Tien Hao looked down on Li Huai, Li Huai also looked down on him, but Li Huai loved Keke.

Whether it was martial arts or wealth, Li Huai never wanted to publicize, also disdained publicity. But in order to form a family with Keke, he could not but compromise. He unwilling demonstrated his martial arts in the city, also helplessly compelled to show off his vast fortune. Pity that his compromise did not bring him a loving family, on the contrary, it has brought him nightmares. Because not too long ago, the imperial palace's batch of priceless gold was stolen. With martial arts skilled beyond one's depth, squandering money like dirt, Li Huai naturally came under suspicion that he was gold robber.

He immediately became the fat piece of meat seek by both the black [underworld/illegal] and white [legal] worlds, everyone wanted to be quick, even Zhang Chen also wanted a piece of him, but none were successful. It was at this moment, besides Fang Keke, another girl appeared in his life. Her name was Xue Cai Yue, she was mistress of "Leng Yue Shan Zhuang" [Cold Moon Mountain Villa] , people of Jiang Hu referred to her as Yue Shen [Moon Goddess] . Although her appearance was very beautiful, but people called her Yue Shen not because of her beautiful appearance, but because she was an assassin who hunted & killed "bad people" for the emperor, the highest paid killer of that era.....in certain ancient fables, moon meant death. The sun was life, the moon was death. The moon god/goddess also meant the god/goddess of death. This time, she was following the royal edict to assist the head inspector of the department of crime & punishment [made up the dept. name] Han Jun to capture and kill Li Huai. The emperor did not want this case to be known, he wanted Yue Shen to silence & kill Li Huai, because at that time, the natural disasters & turmoils of war had not subsided long, the state treasury was empty, people were living in misery, he didn't want his subjects to know he had stored such vast amount of money & silk in his personal palace treasury. Perhaps the god of the fate developed a kind heart, had to give Li Huai a loving family. Yue Shen did not kill Li Huai, actually was attracted by Li Huai. At the same time, Fang Keke's selfishness [or do as one pleases] & bad temperament, also caused Li Huai to feel disappointed, Yue Shen's unique inborn qualities [or natural endowments] started to have a subtle effect on Li Huai, it looked like someone has cast one of the world's mysterious evil incantations on him, his love for Fang Keke unconsciously went away, and went to Yue Shen. He became uncontrollably infatuated with Yue Shen, made the decision that she was his ideal object. Keke's envy & hatred all came together, but she was completely helpless. Li Huai & Yue Shen were in love with each other, mutually attracted to each other, but it also caused Leng Xiao Xing, who had a special feeling for Yue Shen, to become envious & hateful. Leng Xiao Xing was a good friend of Yue Shen, who helped each other out in difficult times since childhood, many who shown interest & pursued Yue Shen often inexplicably die in her hands.

Li Huai and Yue Shen overcame extreme difficulties, to avoid the annoying & chaotic Jiang Hu, in a strange & beautiful place, they enjoyed a happy life as newlyweds together. Li Huai finally had a loving family. Each day, each (two) hour, each moment, was filled with great tenderness. He rejoiced at his own choice, he was proud of his own happiness. One day. When Li Huai awoke, found out his pregnant wife, Yue Shen, left with saying a word, she left behind a note, the note said her love & fate had already ended with Li Huai, told Li Huai to henceforth forget her. Li Huai felt unprecedented pain, he inexplicably lost both the love of his life & his unborn child.

An empty & lonely Li Huai returned to that mountain city.....to mountain city where he and Yue Shen met each other. This return was different from the last, the mountain city became a ghost town. The unruly, selfish Fang Keke lost her family, & also her memory. Didn't know how the Fang family declined/became poor, the pavilion was overgrown with underbrush, the vegetation withered. The haughty/arrogant Miss Fang became a stray cur, luckily Zhao Chuan made light of all discomforts & attended to her. Li Huai had a grievously, sorry feeling towards Keke, it was only right & proper to lent a helping hand to Keke, diligently helped her to restore her memory. Fang Keke finally regained her memory, but this was actually not due to Li Huai. She simply never once lost her family, never once lost her memory, it was all a set-up, a set-up carried out by Fang Tienhao and Han Jun. Fang Keke hated Li Huai to death, therefore she allowed herself to be used by her father and Han Jun as bait, entrapped this, whom both the black and white worlds were at a loss to capture, gold robber.
