Bonwhin

Bonwhin

Bonwhin Meraighdin is a fictional character in Robert Jordan's "Wheel of Time" books. She was Amyrlin Seat, and the last Aes Sedai of the Red Ajah to be raised to this position until Elaida do Avriny a'Roihan.

Bonwhin was the Amyrlin Seat during the reign of Artur Hawkwing, circa FY 939 - FY 992. Her efforts to control Artur Hawkwing almost split the White Tower, and she was stripped of her stole and punished severely as a result of this. She was the last Aes Sedai of the Red Ajah to be raised as Amrylin, although the current Amyrlin of Tar Valon, Elaida do Avriny a'Roihan, has changed this.

Catalyst for Red/Blue Rivalry?

Her deposition from Amyrlin Seat was made more bitter when she was replaced by an Aes Sedai of the Blue Ajah. This hard fact has spurred on the rivalry between members of the Red and Blue Ajah's ever since Bonwhin's time. Elaida keeps a trygraph in her study which depicts Bonwhin's punishment for almost splitting the White Tower. This is to remind her of the price of failure. Unrealised by Elaida, she has succeeded in splitting the tower and it is likely that Bonwhin's fate is one which awaits her should the tower be united once by her Salidar counterpart, Egwene al'Vere.
