John Kennedy, 6th Earl of Cassilis

John Kennedy, 6th Earl of Cassilis, PC (bef. 1606–1668) was a Scottish peer, the son of Hew Kennedy, Master of Cassilis, the grandson of the 4th Earl of Cassilis.

He married (1) Lady Jean Hamilton, daughter of Thomas Hamilton, 1st Earl of Haddington, on 7 January 1621/22. They had three children.

*James Kennedy, Lord Kennedy (bef. 1642, d. bt 29 September 16427 February 1643)
*Lady Margaret Kennedy (bef. 1642)

He married (2) Margaret Hay, daughter of William Hay, 10th Earl of Erroll, on 15 March 1643/44. They had one child.
*John Kennedy, 7th Earl of Cassilis (1653–1701)

He succeeded to the titles of 8th Lord Kennedy and 6th Earl of Cassilis on 25 July 1616.

In 1643 he was one of three Elders sent to the Divines at Westminster, to ratify the solemn league. In September 1646 he was sent to King Charles I to urge him to accept the English propositions.

He held the office of an Extraordinary Lord of Session [Scotland] between 1649 and 1651. He held the office of Justice-General between 1649 and 1651.

In March 1649 in Breda, he was sent to King Charles II with other instructions from Parliament. He was one of the 62 members of Cromwell's House of Lords, although he did not sit.

He held the office of an Extraordinary Lord of Session [Scotland] between June 1661 and July 1662.
