Charles Kennedy, 5th Marquess of Ailsa (10 April 1875[1] – 1 June 1956[2]) was a Scottish peer, the son of Archibald Kennedy, 3rd Marquess of Ailsa. He was known as Lord Charles Kennedy until 1943, when he inherited the Marquis title.[1]
Educated at Eton and Royal Agricultural College, Cirencester before following a military career.[1][2]
He married (1) Constance Barbara Clarke, on 15 December 1925.[citation needed] She died in 1931.[2]
He married (2) Helen Ethel McDouall, on 26 April 1933.[citation needed]
Archibald Angus Charles Kennedy, 6th Marquess of Ailsa succeeded to the titles of 16th Earl of Cassilis, 18th Lord Kennedy, 5th Marquess of Ailsa & 5th Baron Ailsa on 27 February 1943.
In 1945 he presented the family seat, Culzean Castle, to the National Trust for Scotland under the Country House Scheme.[3]
He died without issue and his titles passed to his younger brother.[2]
