Alessia Filippi (born
June 23 ,1987 inRome ) is an Italian swimmer.Filippi excels in
backstroke and medley races, as well as in middle-distance freestyle (400 to 800 m).She was the first Italian woman to win a gold medal at any international competition, by winning the 400 m medley at the 2006 European Swimming Championships in
Budapest [http://www.swimrankings.net/index.php?page=meetDetail&meetId=7360725&gender=2&styleId=19] .She also won a bronze medal in the same championship, and a silver medal in the 2006 short-course World Championships. In December 2006 she confirmed her title at the 2006 short-course European Championships inHelsinki . After winning two gold medals in theEuropean LC Championships 2008 inEindhoven earlier that year.
