- Treaty of Bergerac
The Treaty of Bergerac (also known as the Edict of Poitiers) was signed on
September 17 ,1577 betweenHenry III of France andHuguenot princes. This accord was developed after the sixth phase of theFrench Wars of Religion . The treaty replaced theEdict of Beaulieu , which was deemed by the Catholic League as too favorable toProtestants . Based on the terms of the treaty, Huguenots were only allowed to practice their faith in the suburbs of one town in each judicial district. InVivarais , the treaty was recognized in late October 1577.References
