Brimington Junior School is an English community junior school located in Brimington, Chesterfield, north Derbyshire. The school caters for both boys and girls aged 7-11.

Students

Most of the pupils live in Brimington or the nearby area. 221 boys and 166 girls attended the school in 2003, and most are entitled to free school meals. The school uniform consists of red jumpers and black trousers over a plain white polo shirt.

Campus

Since the school was established, it has used two different buildings within walking distance of each other.

The Old Brimington Junior Building

The first, and oldest, building of the Brimington Junior School was built mostly in 1878 and was a Victorian junior school. Before it was closed in 1998, the school consisted of one large main building, where most of the teaching took place; one wooden building divided into two classrooms and a toilet; another building that was used for assemblies; a couple of outside toilets; a wooden bike shed; and an old building behind the wooden classrooms that was used for storing donations for the summer fair. At break times, the pupils went outside into the playground, which surrounded the main building. Football games took place near the car entrance. There was also a small school-run sweet shop, which was converted into private flats after the school moved out of the building. The ground the school used for sports days and other important races was a short walk from the new building.

The New Building

After 120 years of use, the old school was in poor condition and its use ceased in 1998, and a new campus was built within walking distance of the old site.

The current Brimington Junior School is a one-story building situated on Springvale Road, Brimington, Chesterfield. It rests on the former site of Westwood Upper School, which was demolished in 1993. Unlike the old building, the current facility uses different zones for different age groups. In addition to classrooms, the building contains a hall that is used for assemblies and sport, a cafeteria, and a library.

The school also stores various equipment in the sports shed. The main building was a full rectangle except for the two small garden areas, which had small rocks, plants and a pond. There are also two benches dedicated to two boys who died in an accident.Fact|date=July 2008 The playground is divided into two sections: the normal playground and a section that has 30 basketball nets. The latter section also functions as the football pitch area. There is also a little playground for younger children.
