Arighi Bianchi is a
furniture shop in thetown ofMacclesfield inCheshire ,England . It was founded in1854 by Italian immigrants Antonio Arighi and Antonio Bianchi who originated from the village ofCasnate on the shores ofLago di Como .The grade II*

The famous four-storey shop front, inspired byPaxton ’s Crystal Palace of1851 , only arrived in1892 , the work of a local builder,George Roylance . It has a lot in common with the iron frame buildings of lower Manhattan.It is notable for being saved from demolition in the year1973 after a long running and vociferous campaign aided by theVictorian Society , theArchitectural Review magazine andSir John Betjeman .
