Angel Perez is a fictional character from Terry Brooks' "Great Wars" trilogy of novels, written as a prequel to his "Shannara" series. A Knight of the Word, Angel's first appearance is in the book "Armageddon's Children".

Biography

Angel's parents, two Latina illegal immigrants, crossed the border into the United States and settled in Los Angeles, California. Her parents are soon killed, leaving Angel to fend for herself. Angel is later found by another illegal immigrant named Johnny, who is later killed as well. Sometime after, she meets with an agent of the Word known as O'olish Amaneh, who asks her to join him and then hands her a magical staff, the choice weapon for the Knights of the Word. Angel later becomes the protector of a local compound and she tries in vain to convince the denizens that the compound is not a permanent haven. However, she secretly prepares for the devastating final assault by constructing an exit.

Like she said, the attack comes to pass and most of the compound dwellers are slaughtered, but fortunately Angel manages to save the few who heeded her warnings. She is later accompanied by one of The Lady of the Word's emissaries, a Tatterdemalion named Ailie, whom informs her of the existence of Elves and her assignment: To find the Loden Elfstone in order to save the Elven race. Angel also clashes with Delloreen, Findo Gask's power-hungry second-in-command, with each confrontation resulting in a narrow escape.

In The Elves of Cintra, Angel resumes her quest to reach the Elves. With the help of her Tatterdemalion Ailie, she is accepted into the Elves city of Arborlon. There she meets Kirisin and Erisha Bellorous, discovering their mission for the Ellcrys (A magical tree that holds back the demons emprisoned in the forbidding). After failing to convince the king of the importance of finding the elfstones, they discover that there is a demon among the Elves, possibly in the form of Arissen Bellorous. Angel, Kirisin, Ailie, Erisha and Simralin (Kirisin's older sister who is a tracker for the Elves) try to find the blue elfstones that Culph tells them are buried in a crypt. After recovering the elfstones, they are ambushed by Delloreen who has tracked Angel. Delloreen kills Erisha, fleeing when Simraling blind one of her eyes. Later they discover that Ailie was killed by the other demon who has teamed up with Delloreen. Angel, Kirisin and Simralin flee, running off in search of the Loden elfstone. After trekking out of Arbolon and Cintra, they acquire the help of a blind old tracker by the name of Larkin Quill, who ferries them upriver where they use a hot air baloon to reach Syrring Rise. Angel leaves Kirisin and Simralin when she senses Delloreen. She fights the demon again. Both suffer bad injuries until Angel uses her magic to destroy Delloreen. She realises that the second demon must have gone ahead to kill Kirisin and Simralin. She desperately tries to find the energy to save them, but is too weak and collapses.
