pcupdate = September 3, 2008Scott McLaughlin (born
20 January 1984 inGlasgow ) is a Scottish footballer currently playing for Airdrie United.McLaughlin played in centre midfield for Greenock Morton. He is a defensive minded midfielder and his main role in the team is to 'sit' in front of the defence and break up opposition attacks. However he also likes to move forward with the ball and has a fairly powerful shot from long distance.
He began his career at
Hamilton Academical . He made one substitute appearance and one start v Cowdenbeath for Hamilton before moving on to Livingston in 2002. McLaughlin played a reasonable number of games at Livingston where he won a C.I.S. cup winners medal coming on at right back against Hibs but they decided it would be better for his career if they were to loan him out to Morton for half of season 2004-05. After this spell he returned to Livingston and was getting a chance to play first team football under new managerPaul Lambert . However Scott thought he was being underused by Lambert and had enjoyed his spell on loan at Morton. So a few months into 2005-06 McLaughlin signed a permanent contract with Morton, who he was on loan to the previous season.One of the high points in his career so far was winning a C.I.S. Cup Winners Medal against Hibson 14th March 2004. He also scored what was voted the "goal of the month" the same season witha 30 yard volley v Dundee Utd.
One of the low points in his career so far was losing the play off match against Peterhead in the 2005/2006 season and missing the vital penalty in a shoot-out defeat to local rivals St. Mirren in the challenge cup semi final.
McLaughlin has matured as a player and has firmly established himself as Morton's 'ball winner'.Played in the majority of games in the Second Division Championship winning team of 2006 2007.
He joined Airdrie United in July 2008.______________________________________________________________________________________________________
