Opening track

Opening track

The opening track is used to refer to the first track or song on an album. It is particularly of importance in compiling an album because it is usually the first impression the buyer of one receives of the material, and is very crucial in getting the listener to either listen to the rest of the album, or to stop listening before he completes it. Listed below are the usual criteria in deciding an opening track (most of the traits are to be decided comparative to the other material on the album):

*Slightly conventional, yet unique in either structure or melody.
*In the rock genre, more intense instrumentation ("harder" in the common vernacular), often referred to as "starting it with a kick".
