Belgharia

Belgharia ( _bn. বেলঘড়িয়া) is a suburb and a northern district of Kolkata. It is situated near Barrackpore Trunk Road under Kamarhati Municipality. Belgharia name was denotes 'Bell' & 'Ghor' means in Bengali A house with Bell which stands near Sindhu Store of M.B.Road. Bhairab Ganguly College is situated near Belgharia post office. Now it has become a business hub, well connected with Calcutta with trains, buses and other means of transport. Belgharia is one of the busiest stations of the main train line starting from Sealdah. This place is a suburb area with lots of residents.

Ramakrishna Paramhansa visited visited this place 8 times and the 1st time was in 1875. Ramakrishna Mission also situated here and they running a Students' Home for meritorius poor and needy students along with a 3 year Diploma Engg. College . They also conducting vast relief activity. Swami Vijnananda. a direct disaple of Ramakrishna also resides here.

The main educational institutions of Belgharia are Belgharia High School,Jatindas Vidyamandir etc. The newly built Belgharia Express Way which linked Jassore Rd.,Dumdum Airport and Nivedita Setu on Ganges increased the importance of this places.
