Because of a large amount of students attending Lakeland High School, a small building was constructed in 1997 for the residents of Spirit Lake, to relieve the population of Lakeland. The small population allowed for the building to serve as the senior and junior high school (7-12 graders). As the population increased, the school became overcrowded and Timberlake Junior High School was built for the 7th and 8th graders in 2005. Since the junior high was built on the same road as the high school, the schools share the same athletic fields. Junior High students also may come over the senior high because of a school event, such as a concert or vice versa. The junior high and the senior high share the same internet and network, allowing a teacher or student to log into the computer at both the two schools. Students in Spirit Lake, Athol, Bayview, and Twin Lakes attend Timberlake.
