snapping shrimp of the familyAlpheidae , living on sandy-muddy bottoms at depths of between 5 and 80 m. Its length is up to 6 cm.It has a triangular rostrum, reaching near the end of the first antennular article, with the rostal carina extending to middle of
carapace . Adrostral grooves marked. Merus of larger chelipeds interiorly serrulate, bearing apical spine on inner, outer margins. Outer margin of chela entire, not grooved, lacking longitudinal carinae.The body is dorsally greenish-brown with cream-colored longitudinal streaks, and the sides cream-coloured. The inner surface of larger chela greenish brown, fingers proximally turquoise and violet, distally pale yellow. The second pereopod distally violet. Antennular flagella yellow. The eggs are green.
It has a worldwide distribution, being found in the Indo-West Pacific oceans, probably arriving in the
Mediterranean via theSuez Canal . It is now common on theIsrael i coast. In Australia it is found to live in association withgobiid fishes.References
