Robin Schimminger

Robin Schimminger

Robin Schimminger (born 1947) represents District 140 in the New York State Assembly, which comprises portions of the City of Tonawanda and the City of North Tonawanda.

Elected in 1976, Schimminger had previously worked as a member of the Erie County Legislature, where he served as the Chairman of the Public Health Committee.

In his role as an Assemblyman he currently serves as the Chairman of the Committee on Economic Development, as well as the standing committees on Job Creation and Commerce and Industry. In 1985, after having served for four years as Chairman of the Subcommittee on Small Business, he was named as Chairman of the newly created Assembly Standing Committee on Small Business. He is the Assembly Chairman of the State Legislature's Western New York delegation.

Some signature pieces of legislation he has either authored or sponsored include the Equal Access to Justice Act, Omnibus Procurement Act and the Linked Deposit Program.

It recently came to light that a Schimminger in-law, Amy Downey, was convicted of fraud in 2003 for the theft of $248,000 from a federal education fund. Mrs. Downey served ten months of a twenty-month sentence at the Alderson Federal Prison Camp in Alderson, West Virginia.
