Characters
- Ilien Woodhill
- is the novel's young protagonist. His back-story bears similarity to that of Harry Potter in that both his mother and father, are each out of the picture, and that Ilien is being raised by his uncle, Gallund (Later to be revealed as his farther). Also that throughout the book there is increasing speculation, and revelation on the topic of Ilien's birth/infancy. Ilien is also distinctly his own character, in that the relationship with his Uncle is considerably better. More than that Gallund himself is a wizard, and the one who has been teaching Ilien the art of magic, since there is not the simplistic concept of a school system in which children with the gift are rounded up and instructed in such an organized manor. It is in the teacher/student roles, that Ilien often finds himself at odds with his uncle, since Ilien is bored with the basics of magic and often tries to skip ahead to more complex magic(usually with undesirable results).
- Gallund
- Gallund is Ilien's farther and he teaches Ilien many important lessons in magic. Along the way,Gallund teaches Ilien the ways of the creatchers in Nadea. He always sees things in a different way, teaching him that things are not always what they seem.
- The Swan
- The Swan is a very knowligable person living in drowsy wood. Ilien first meets the swan when going through the dog house and teleporting. Swan helps teach Ilien his history, as well as life lessons. The Swan can talk (obviously) and has a great sense of humor. She is peaceful and hates Nidemons.
