It was established in 1987 as Sabah Tshung Tsin Pre-University Centre to provide internationally recognised pre-university qualifications to locals.

History

Classes officially started in January, 1987 with 152 students enrolled. In the same year, students who sat for the A-Level and LCCI examinations did extremely well, and this has prompted the Hakka Association to raise funds to build a building specially for the "Pre-University" students. The building was completed in 1989 and officially used.

Institut Sinaran is formerly known as "Sabah Tshung Tsin Pre-University Centre".

Educational Structure

Currently, Institut Sinaran offers three main courses of study, A-Levels, Diploma of Commerce, and South Australian Matriculation. [http://www.institut-sinaran.edu.my/programmes.htm]

A-Levels

Cambridge A-Level (SM3721)

The institute offers a course leading up to a qualifications in GCE A-Levels as administered by Cambridge International Examinations.Two streams of study are offered, Science and Commerce, where students choose from a list of subjects offered within a stream. Science subjects on offer are Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Mathematics and Further Mathematics, while Commerce subjects on offer are Accounting, Business Studies, Economics, Mathematics and Law. While the school's official policy is that students are only able to take subjects from the same course, there has been instances in the past where a student, with approval, is allowed to forgo this requirement and do a mixture of subjects from both courses.The school also operates both regular A-Levels (1 1/2 year course) and also Intensive A-Levels (1 year course). This applies to both Science and Commerce streams.

Diploma of Commerce

MQA (LAN) accredited

The course is specially designed for form five school leavers who wish to pursue a career in the challenging and rewarding business world. It takes 2 years 4 months to complete the diploma at Institut Sinaran and successful students will be transferred to one of our partner universities for a Bachelor Degree in business related course within 1 1/2 to 2 years.
