Kurukshetra University (Hindi: कुरुक्षेत्र विश्वविद्यालय) was established in 1956 as a Unitary Residential University and its foundation stone was laid by late Dr. Rajendra Prasad, the first President of India.
Located in the city of [Kurukshetra, its campus is situated on the western bank of Brahma Sarovar (the holy tank) and extends over an area of over convert|400|acre|km2 of land and is situated at a distance of about 4 km. from Kurukshetra Railway Station and about 8 km. from Pipli, a well known road junction on National Highway No.1 (Sher Shah Suri Marg).
Starting with only the Department of Sanskrit, it has grown into a multi-faculty University.Adjacent to Kurukshetra university campus is National Institute of Technology, Kurukshetra campus formerly known as Regional Engineering College, Kurukshetra.
