- Gavin Wildridge Johnstone
Dr Gavin Wildridge Johnstone (1941-1987) was an Australian
ornithologist who grew up and was educated inScotland . He completed hisPhD thesis on theecology andbehaviour ofBlack Grouse , at theUniversity of Aberdeen in 1969. He moved toAustralia in 1969 to participate in the 1970Australian National Antarctic Research Expedition (ANARE). There he wintered onMacquarie Island and worked onspeciation in Giant Petrels. With theAustralian Antarctic Division he made further visits to Australia'ssubantarctic islands and to Antarctica, subsequently publishing many papers on the biology of Antarctic and subantarcticseabirds . He also served as Review Editor for theRoyal Australasian Ornithologists Union 's journal "Emu".References
