Lake View Cemetery (Seattle)
- Lake View Cemetery (Seattle)
Lake View Cemetery is a cemetery located on Seattle, Washington, Capitol Hill just north of Volunteer Park. It is named for its view of Lake Washington to the east. It was founded in 1873 as the Seattle Masonic Cemetery.
Among those buried there are Princess Angeline, daughter of Chief Seattle; Bruce and Brandon Lee; poet Denise Levertov; distinguished naval architect Eugene McAllaster, designer of the historic Seattle fireboat "Duwamish"; and Seattle pioneers David Swinson "Doc" Maynard, Asa Mercer, Henry Yesler, Arthur Denny, and other members of the Denny Party. Noted businessman and military officer Granville O. Haller and his wife are interred in Lake View. In the northeast corner of the cemetery is the Nisei War Memorial Monument, dedicated in 1949 to Japanese American veterans, some of whom are buried there.
Just north of the cemetery is the 1895 Grand Army of the Republic Cemetery.
