Krista Starr

Krista Starr is a character from the American TV show "". She is portrayed by Jill Wagner. She is a vampire from the .

As a human

Krista Starr was a sergeant in the US Army. She served in Iraq, returning from her tour of duty to her home in Detroit. Krista was wounded in a bombing while serving, but it's not clear if this is why she returned or not. After returning home to a party at her mother's house, she was told that no one had seen her brother in a while and that he had fallen in with the wrong crowd. Upset that no one from the family would vouch for him, Krista tried to reassure them that he was a good kid. Later that night, police came to the party and informed them that Zach had been killed.

Upset by his killing, Krista vowed to track down his murderer. She visited with at the police station. Unbeknownst to her, Boone was a vampire familiar, and was eager to close the case as a gang killing to cover up for his vampire master. Krista noticed the glyph tattooed on Zach's neck and asked Boone about it, he passed it off to her as a gang symbol. Sensing that she was getting the runaround, Krista drew the glyph out and researched it. Her research led her to Professor Melvin Caylo (Randy Quaid), who tries to tell her that vampires are real and that her brother's tattoo marked him as a familiar. Unwilling to believe him, she leaves. As she continues to investigate, several vampires (presumably under orders from Marcus Van Sciver) stage a car accident and lure her into an abandoned warehouse. They confront and attempt to kill her, but are stopped by the vampire hunter . Blade ashes the vampires and tells Krista to stop looking into her brother's death because it will get her killed too.

Krista returns to Professor Caylo to hear him out and can't believe what she's being told. She seeks Blade out and insists that he help her find out who killed her brother. Blade tells her that it was ordered by Marcus Van Sciver, and finally agrees to let her help. Krista attends a charity function with Marcus where she ends up on a nearby rooftop with a sniper rifle, threatening to kill Marcus unless he tells her why he killed her brother. Krista is captured by Marcus' companion Chase, who delivers Krista to Marcus. Marcus injects Krista with his blood and throws her off a rooftop, killing her. She awakens in the morgue later that night, permanently turned into a vampire. Confused and upset, she returns to Marcus at the House of Chthon.

As a vampire

Confused and being consumed by the vampire thirst, Krista returns to the Chthon hotel and Marcus. She is given fresh blood to drink and they explain what's happened to her. She is given a room at the hotel (albeit a locked room) and is led to a building where Marcus presents her with her first human to kill: Detective Boone. Krista savagely attacks Boone, ripping out his throat. However, she fails to completely drink all of his blood, and Boone himself is turned. Marcus orders Chase to show Krista her way around and to care for her until she is established. Chase is immediately jealous of Krista and promises that she will kill Krista at the first chance.

During a fight with Krista and Chase, Blade injects Krista with his serum, which clears her mind of the vampire thirst. She later meets him in secret and he provides her with a large amount of serum to use instead of killing and feeding on blood. She hides the serum in a chain of vials hidden in her shower drain. The serum prevents her from needing to kill, but causes her some trouble when she doesn't feed with the other vampires. Marcus initially chalks up her reluctance to kill to her being a newborn and doesn't pay much attention to it.

Krista's failure to kill Boone creates a problem. Boone begins a cross country killing spree that attracts the attention of of the FBI. This could potentially cause trouble to Marcus and his Aurora Project. Marcus orders Chase and Krista to Oregon for a blood ritual at the . The ritual, which was supposed to last less than 20 minutes, takes over 5 hours. Krista has visions of her brother, who tells her to continue her work with Blade. Eventually they locate Boone and Chase thinks she killed him, in actuality he escapes and disappears.

As Krista learns more about Aurora, she is pressed by Blade to obtain a sample. Being a double agent puts a lot of pressure on her, and she is forced to make a hard choice on a raid with Chase - kill the vampire Fritz before Blade can capture him, or allow Fritz to be captured and possibly blow her cover with Marcus. She kills Fritz after saving Chase from being killed in a bombing. The killing of Fritz causes Krista to be badly injured (a stake is driven through her side, barely missing her heart). She recovers, and starts to become aware of her ability to regenerate. After the battle with Fritz and Blade, Blade tries to coerce Krista into obtaining him a sample of Aurora. When Krista is stopped by Marcus, he reveals to her that Aurora doesn't work and that she has only two choices - accept the vampire life with him or die.

As Krista gets deeper inside the House of Chthon, things get more difficult with her and her relationship to Blade. Krista is sent by Marcus to Berlin after Chase is badly injured in a bombing by Blade. Blade has kidnapped a woman named who is incubating what Blade believes is a vampire child. Krista is sent with a strike team of vampires to kill Blade and retrieve the woman. Instead, she kills the strike team and reports in to Blade, who tells her the woman doesn't have a baby after all, but is incubating a strange fluid. Blade gives Krista the fluid and takes a small sample for himself. Before she leaves, Krista had Blade cut off her arm and scar her face with his sword, so that Marcus will believe she actually fought with him rather than making a deal. Krista returns the fluid to Marcus and reports that her team was killed by Blade.

Meanwhile, Krista's uncle comes to her and tells her that her mother is dying from Leukemia. She needs a bone marrow transplant, and Krista is the only match. Krista refuses, for obvious reasons. Pat becomes enraged and they fight, with her uncle believing that Marcus is a drug dealer and that Krista is using. Facing her dying mother, Krista makes a horrible decision. She breaks into Blade's warehouse and steals extra serum. She returns to her mother's house and bites her mother, then smothers her to death. Her mom turns into a vampire, but her mom escapes the house before she can be injected with the serum. Confused and taken by the blood lust, her mother goes on a feeding frenzy, killing Uncle Pat and several other people before arriving at the Chthon hotel, where she is taken by a "disposal team". Blade, Krista, and Shen find her mother as the team is about to kill her. The take her to Blade's warehouse and try to overcome the thirst, but her mother has fed too much and rejects the serum. Upset, Krista is forced to ash her mother before she can attack Shen.

Upset at her mother's death, Krista fights with Marcus. She blames him for the death of everyone she loved. Marcus forces Krista to observe his own past through a trance, where she learns the pain of Marcus' turning and the death of his human wife. She softens to his pain and eventually succumbs to the blood lust, engorging herself on blood and sex with Marcus. Krista stops taking the serum and begins hunting live humans for blood. Irritated, Blade captures her and forces her to detox - she goes back on the serum and stops feeding on blood or her ashes her. After a 36 hour stay in Blade's holding cell, Krista overcomes the thirst and goes back on the serum. She does engage Marcus again sexually at least one more time that we are shown.

Krista begins to get more personally involved in Chthon politics and is obviously becoming more attached to Marcus. Jealous, Chase confronts Krista in her room and offers her a choice: Give Marcus back to Chase and back off, or face Chase's wrath. Krista blows her off and the two leave with sour tastes for each other. In the meantime, Marcus orders Chase to kill Charlotte, a Chthon pureblood. Krista calls Blade and informs him that Charlotte's plane was blown up by Marcus, and Blade goes there to retrieve information from the wreckage. Unknown to her, Marcus had the call to Blade traced and uses it to locate the vampire hunter and his assistant Shen. As Marcus prepares for the conclave (where he will unleash Aurora), he tells Krista that they are about to capture Blade. She tries to call and warn Blade but is too late and Shen is captured. Shen is brought back to the hotel where Marcus orders Krista to torture him for information. She pries off three of Shen's fingernails and punches him in the face when Marcus orders her to escalate the violence. She leans over and breaks her own fingers, and Shen fakes pain to cover for her. She slips Shen a scalpel to escape with as she and Marcus are called to Toronto.

At the conclave, Krista is kept to the side until the main event, when Marcus tries to unleash Aurora. When it doesn't work, he realizes that he was betrayed by Chase, who tells Krista she is going to kill her. Krista and Chase fight as Blade and Marcus fight, and the battle ends with Krista dropping Chase down a 12 flight staircase. When she returns to confront Marcus, Blade is about to kill him. Before she can interfere, Shen shoots her in the shoulder with a silver bullet. Marcus grabs her and they escape Blade together. Later on, Marcus takes Krista to Blade's burned out warehouse to look for clues. After dancing around it for a few minutes, Marcus finally reveals that they traced Krista's phone call to Blade and then he grabs her by the throat, asking how long she has been working for Blade.
