- Femtolab
FemtoLab is an ultrafast high speed laser spectroscopy and communication laboratory in the
physics department atStevens Institute of Technology , Hoboken, NJ. The lab director is Rainer Martini.Main focus of the research in this laboratory is development of new devices and application in the
infrared region of the spectrum. A specific focus is thereby on security as well as communication application.Mid-Infrared Free-Space Optical Communication
In a long term study the laboratory compares since 2001 the atmospheric propagation at different wavelengths in indoor and outdoor studies to find the optimal
wavelength forfree-space optical communication . It specifically usesQuantum cascade laser to transmit data using themid-infrared part of the spectrum, which propagates much more favorably under bad weather conditions like fog.Optical controlled devices for the Terahertz system
A secondary focus of research is based on the component development for the
far-infrared spectral region, the so calledterahertz spectrum. This components are including modulators and lenses and are based on optical excitation and allow therefore for an active control.External links
