Todd A. Levett (born April 19 in
Cleveland, Ohio ) is a Democratic political strategist in Washington, DC, currently serving as Senior Professional Staff Member to theU.S. House Committee on Homeland Security , under the auspices of that Committee's top Democratic Member of Congress, ChairmanBennie G. Thompson ofMississippi .Since joining the Congressional oversight
Committee in October 2005, first as a Congressional policy fellow, Levett has been tasked with a number of oversight responsibilities. He has served as a policy expert for the Democrats on border security programs such asUS-VISIT , document and human authentication andbiometric technologies, and policy pertaining to the nexus between the Department of Defense's Homeland Defense mission and the responsibilities of theU.S. Department of Homeland Security . He has also participated in a number of Committee investigations into waste, fraud, and abuse at the Department of Homeland Security.He is currently responsible for the Committee's global counterterrorism policy portfolio, which includes international affairs, homeland defense, the
United States Secret Service , andFederal Law Enforcement Training Center .Cleveland
Growing up in Cleveland, Todd was active in the community. While attending University School, Levett concurrently worked for the Cleveland Plain Dealer (Ohio's largest newspaper) as a reporter, photographer, and editor at the paper's weekly NEXT feature section. In addition, Levett was an active volunteer at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, where he developed the first web presence for the Department of Endocrinology and coordinated the Glucose Data Transfer Project in the Pediatric Endocrinology Section. Levett also served as a volunteer and spokesperson for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation throughout Northeast Ohio.
Washington
Levett is associated with the Truman National Security Project, a 501(c)4 nonprofit social welfare organization where he volunteers as a fellow, and the Truman National Security Project Educational Institute, a 501(c)3 nonprofit, nonpartisan organization. Both organizations are dedicated to developing and training a new cadre of progressive national security experts and leaders.
