Guido of Ravenna

Guido of Ravenna

Guido of Ravenna "?or Guido of Pisa?" (birth unknown – death July 9, 1169), geographer, entomologist and historian from Ravenna. Wrote e.g. "Géographica", the encyclopedia including maps of Italy and the world. One map dated to 1119 A.D. refers to some earlier maps ("Anonymous Geographer from Ravenna") from the Crusading Age. His knowledge seems to be unknown outside Italy until 19th century.
