Hanover Courthouse is an unincorporated community in and the county seat of Hanover County, Virginia, United States. Hanover Courthouse is located at the junction of U.S. Route 301 and State Route 54 south of the Pamunkey River. While historically and technically known as Hanover Courthouse, the community's post office and residents refer to it as Hanover. The best-known historic structure in the National Historic Landmark 1735 Hanover County Courthouse, where Hanover County resident Patrick Henry practiced law. Also located in the Hanover County Courthouse Historic District is the historic Hanover Tavern, once a Revolutionary-era tavern and now home of the Barksdale Theater.
