Jason Briscoe was the Republican nominee for State Representative in
Illinois 's 75th district. Briscoe challenged incumbent Democrat Careen Gordon in what is one of the more competitive districts in the state. Briscoe won his party's nomination in the March 21st primary defeating David McAloon. Briscoe lost in the General election to incumbent Careen Gordon, losing in all counties except Iroquois which he won by eleven votes. In other counties Gordon managed to garner up to 69% of the popular vote, ultimately polling almost double the votes of the challenger. 24,609 to 12,575. August 11 ,2006 , Briscoe and his wife Melissa admitted that during a verbal dispute, Melissa had dialed 911 onSeptember 10 ,2002 . Melissa Briscoe has said she did not "fear for my safety", and that she is "proud of my husband". [ On 08/15/2007, Briscoe's wife, Melissa, once again called police out of fear. Briscoe was not at the house when officers arrived, the following day Briscoe turned himself into police on a charge of domestic battery to his wife. August 16 ,2007 , Minooka Police and Will County State's attorney Jim Glasgow issued an arrest warrant for Brisoce due to a call to local police from the Briscoe home at 419 Rivers Edge Dr. Mayor Brisoce surrendered himself to Minooka police where he was charged with domestic battery and released on a $300 bond.Shortly after his release Briscoe had no comment. Briscoe and his wife, Melissa, are currently in the middle of a divorce according to court records.
Briscoe's wife, Melissa, said she called police out of fear, and that it was not the first time her husband got "physical" with her,
"I called because he was physical with me," Melissa Briscoe said. "And I feared for my safety, and we're in the process of a divorce."(reference 3 & 4)
In
July 2008, Briscoe pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 12 months of court supervision and a $300 fine for the 2007 domestic battery incident.(reference 5)Electoral history
