Banoo Jehangir Coyaji (
August 22 ,1918 -July 15 ,2004 ) was an Indian physician and activist infamily planning andpopulation control . She was director of King Edward Memorial Hospital inPune , and started programmes of community health workers in rural areas ofMaharashtra , the third largest state in India. She became an advisor to the union government and an internationally recognised expert.She received awards including
Padma Bhushan in 1989 and theRamon Magsaysay Award for Public Service in 1993.Further reading
