Born in
Tucson, Arizona , Hyland graduated from Rincon High School in 1985 and went on to study at theUniversity of Arizona . He received a Fine Arts degree in Media Arts in December 1990.Hyland most recently played the "Immigration Officer" who asks tough questions of the title character in the film drama "Alma". Directed and written by award-winning filmmaker Yuri Makino, "Alma" began festival screenings in 2007.
In April 2007, "Alma" won The Ledo Matteoli Award for Best Immigrant Story at the
Humboldt Film Festival in Arcata, California. "America 101" is the 2005 winner of the Audience Prize at both the Golden Film Festival in Colorado and the Dances With Films festival in Santa Monica, California. It was released on DVD in October 2006.
From August 2002 - April 2003, Hyland played "Paulie", the hitman and bodyguard on the ABC television drama "
