- Long Stanton railway station
Long Stanton railway station was a station on the
Great Eastern Railway , between Cambridge and Huntingdon. It served the village ofLongstanton , until closure in October1970 . The station was immortalised in1964 in the song "Slow Train " byFlanders and Swann .The station platforms and railway line through Long Stanton existed for many years as a freight route from Cambridge to
St Ives, Cambridgeshire and there was a proposal to re-open the line to passengers. The station was finally demolished in2007 , due to construction of theCambridgeshire Guided Busway . Parts from the platforms were preserved for re-use on theMid-Norfolk Railway .###@@@KEYEND@@@###
