relatives = Nihongo|Mikoto Suō|周防 美琴|Suō Mikoto is a central character from the manga and anime series "School Rumble". Her surname derives from Suō Province, now the eastern part of Yamaguchi Prefecture in Japan.

Fictional character biography

Mikoto is a close friend of Tenma Tsukamoto. She is a well-endowed young woman, but is also tomboyish. She has a black belt in Kenpo, and is often seen sparring with her childhood friend Haruki Hanai. Mikoto is a good athlete, learning how to swim when she had to, and becoming a competent basketball player in a short amount of time.

Although she is always trying to help out others when she sees them in trouble or having emotional/relationship problems, she is a rather klutz when it comes to facing her own relationship emotions.

According to the last Japanese poll performed by the publishers of the manga, Mikoto is currently the fifth most popular character in the series.

Relationships

Mikoto had a crush on a previous senpai two years her senior, who tutored her in middle school and helped her get into Yagami High School. However, she gave up on him after discovering that he got a girlfriend after he went to college.

Despite Hanai and Mikoto having their own love interests, sometimes they act as they are too close to be just friends, as usually Hanai calls her "Miko-chan" when they are alone, and also how she is sometimes too concerned with him. Her friends also tend to tease her claiming that Hanai's her fiancee to be. There was an episode when Mikoto and Hanai are still in Grade 3, Mikoto tries to persuade him to practice his flute lessons and wanted to be her partner in Music class but Hanai is too timid and he lacks of self confidence believing himself as talentless. He refuses to practice and stop attending his classes but when Mikoto's got herself a fever because of her determination to help Hanai, he finally agrees to attend his classes and flute lessons. It is presumed that Mikoto actually had a crush on Hanai when they were still young. When the bully teases her that the reason why she actually wanted Hanai to be her partner is not because her teacher wanted her to help Hanai but Mikoto herself wanted Hanai to be with her, she blushes...

She is often harassed by Kyosuke Imadori's constant attempts to get her to date him, although he is only interested in her after learning that her breast size is D or larger.

Mikoto was dating Hiroyoshi Asō until recently, but the two broke up. The reason is a mystery as Asō claims he still likes Mikoto, but had to end their relationship.

Mikoto was the first person to befriend Eri Sawachika at Yagami High, not being intimidated by her wealth and social status. The two friends had a brief falling out because Eri was caught talking about her to Tenma behind her back, but later managed to resolve the conflict while watching a fireworks show.

She and Akira Takano have schemed to get Eri to confess her feelings to Harima.
