Stjepan Brodarić

Stjepan Brodarić (1480-1539) (in Hungarian Brodarics István) was a Croatian writer.

In 1498 Brodarić became Zagreb church dean; in 1500 he is mentioned as Zagreb Kaptol editor. He studied in Padua around the years 1501 to 1506, where he received his doctorate in (most probably) canonical law. After his studies, he was appointed to a post of personal secretary to Pécs bishop and royal chancellor.

Brodarić became the church dean in 1515, and soon after a prelate head of Pécs church. In 1521, he was appointed to the post of the king’s secretary; in 1524, Ostrogon church dean cantor; in early 1516 he is the king’s chancellor and the bishop of Srijem. He participated in several diplomatic missions, and wrote a work that described the famous Battle of Mohacs in 1526.

King János Szapolyai nominated Brodarić as Pécs bishop in 1536, and in 1538 the bishop of Vacz before his death in 1539.
