Battle of Kharkov

Battle of Kharkov

Four battles of World War II around the city of Kharkov in Soviet Ukraine (modern Kharkiv in Ukraine) are known as the Battle of Kharkov:

* German troops captured the city in the First Battle of Kharkov, 1941.
* Soviet forces attempted to retake it in the Second Battle of Kharkov (usually known simply as The Battle of Kharkov), May 1942, but were cut off and destroyed.
* Soviet forces retook the city after the Battle of Stalingrad but were driven out again in the Third Battle of Kharkov in February 1943.
* Soviet forces took the city for the final time in the Fourth Battle of Kharkov, August 1943.
