Slanec ( _de. Salzburg; _hu. Nagyszalánc; _la. Castrum Salis) is a
village andmunicipality inKošice-okolie District in theKošice Region ofeast ern Slovakia.History
In historical records the
village was first mentioned in1230 ("Castrum" "Salis") as an important fortress. In1270 KingStephan V gave the castle to Master Reinhold. The new lords of Slanec supported KingPřemyšl Otokar against KingLadislav in the conquest ofBohemian throne. King Ladislav conquered Slanec in1281 . In1299 the castle passed to local noble family Szalanczyi and, successively to landowners Lossonczy and Forgách. In1649 it was besieged by the rebel condottiereGyörgy Rákoczi .Geography
The village lies at an
altitude of 345metres and covers anarea of 20.459 km². The municipality has apopulation of about 1310 people.Transport
