Louise Hawes is an American
academic and author of more than a dozennovels and severalshort stories . She has served as Writer in Residence at theUniversity of New Mexico and as aJohn Grisham Visiting Writer at theUniversity of Mississippi . She has been a guest lecturer at theUniversity of South Florida ,Staten Island College , theUniversity of North Carolina at Chapel Hill , theUniversity of North Carolina at Charlotte ,Meredith College , andDuke University . Winner of theNew Jersey Author’s Award and two fellowships from theNew Jersey Council on the Arts , Hawes helped found the nation's onlyMFA Program in Writing for Children and Young Adults atVermont College , and currently teaches both Fiction and Writing for Children atSpalding University 's MFA in Writing Program [http://www.spalding.edu] inLouisville, Kentucky . Her appearances as guest author, lecturer, and teacher have included sessions for theAmerican Library Association , theNational Council of Teachers of English , Associated Writing Programs, and theU.S. Department of Education .Works include:
*"The Vanishing Point" (Houghton Mifflin , 2005), nominated for the 2006 YA Best Books of the Year list, a Bank Street College pick, and a Booksense Independent Booksellers Association choice;

Prentice Hall 's fiction text, "The Reader Writes the Story" (1995),Simon & Schuster 's "Love and Sex: Ten Stories of Truth" (2001), and the forthcoming "Such a Pretty Face", from Abrams (2007) and "Wishes" from Scholastic. Her short fiction for adults is collected in "Anteaters Don't Dream" published by theUniversity Press of Mississippi (2007).Her dark fairy tales, "The Cinderella Files: Tales Your Mother Never Told You", will be dual-published (for adult and YA readers) by Houghton Mifflin in 2008.
